At MADAGASCAR TRAVEL COMPANY we believe that tourism should be sustainable in every which way. The ecological footprint of our guests should be as small as possible and local communities should also benefit from our visit. Of course the island’s highlights are included in our itineraries, but we also make a point of visiting less known areas and let our guests get a taste of what country life is like.

We encourage our guests to buy 5 or 10 litre containers of drinking water in stead of the one litre variant. Our partners (hotels and supermarkets) and us strive to make these widely available. Furthermore we don’t allow our partners in the bush to use charcoal for cooking. We have provided them with gas cookers so no trees need to be chopped down on our account.

One of our goals is to train underprivileged youngsters to prepare them for a life in tourism. We also support local projects, such as Madalief, a shelter for orphans and single mothers. In Antsirabe we spend the night in their lovely guesthouse of which all profits go directly to the project. For more information, click here.

Some other projects which are close to our heart and are included in our itineraries are:

Ambalavao: a training place and workshop for women where paper is produced the traditional way. This gives them the opportunity to escape poverty and provide a better life for their children.

Parc d’Anja: A small park saved from deforestation by sensibilisation and providing an alternative means to make a living for the locals.

Andringitra: Locals are involved and trained hereby providing them with jobs so they can benefit as well from tourism in this area
